Objective The mandate of CM SAF (http://www.cmsaf.eu) is to provide high-quality, satellite-based data for use in climate monitoring and analysis. The current suite of available data covers the main components of the atmospheric energy and water cycle. The key objective of the 2013 CM SAF Training Workshop is to instruct active and potential users of satellite data for climate applications in the use of CM SAF products for operational climate monitoring and climate research focussing on applications in high latitudes. Workshop Setup Online material and online lectures will be provided prior to the workshop. The 5-day workshop will include lectures, exercises and working group discussions. Focus will be given to practical classes using CM SAF data based on free software tools (climate data operators (cdo) and R, see http://www.cmsaf.eu/tools/ for further information). During the workshop the participants will have the opportunity to explore the use of CM SAF data in their daily work. The focus of the workshop will be on CM SAF data for application in high latitudes. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops. Participants The target group for participation are climatologists at all levels of experience in using satellite data for climate applications. An advanced knowledge of the English language (corresponding to CEFR C1) is mandatory for participation. It is assumed that the participants have experience with applications of climatological data, potentially using satellite data, and will further specialise in this field. Application To apply for this workshop please use the online form at: http://training.eumetsat.int/course/view.php?id=5289 The deadline for application is Friday, 14 June 2013.
